I Have A New Job

Yes, that’s right, I’m changing employers again. This time I’m doing something fairly drastic, I’m moving to Perth.

The company I’ll be working for is called Leica Geosystems, if you wander on over to their website you can have a bit of a look at what they do. I’m really looking forward to it, it’s a chance to do a lot of travel, get involved in the mining industry and get my career moving further into the direction that I want, project management.

As a side point, if you’re clued up on photography, you might notice that Leica Geosystems sister company is Leica Cameras, manufacturer of probably the finest camera lenses in the world.

I won’t be moving to Perth until around November as the first bit of business they’ve got for me is to go to China for a month. Yes, that China. Apparently there’s a giant hole in the ground they’re extracting coal from and figured it would be a good place for me to cut my teeth on.

For a fucking month.

I don’t need to tell you I was a bit surprised when they told me. So yeah, that’s me done for Adelaide for now. I’ll have a fortnight when I get back from China to get my shit in a pile and move it to WA so I’ll be having a farewell/thinly veiled drinking session during that time if you feel so inclined.

If you use Facebook at all, look for me on there and you’ll receive a notification about when it’s going to happen. I’m the one with the pornstache in the photo.

I plan on heading back to Adelaide after Christmas for a few days so if anyone has some sort of New Years Eve plans, let me in on them

My New Laptop

To go along with my new job and impending month-long visit to a police state, I got myself a new laptop. It just happens to be a beefed up monster more commonly known as a Macbook Pro. It’s fantastic, nice and quick and above all, a Mac. I grew up with Apple and it’s nice to get back into using one again on a more regular basis, everything’s just so much easier to do than under Windows. So good.

I’m in the process of setting up all the cool software on it I can get my hands on, I felt so geeky when I set up Time Machine(Apple_software) on it and played with it.

The Olympics

Apparently there was an Olympics”:http://en.beijing2008.cn/ on recently. I say apparently because I, for the most part, didn’t really watch it because the coverage was shit. Channel 7 had the opportunity to raise the bar for the next television broadcaster (I think it’s Channel 9 for the next 3 Olympics) but dropped the ball in a massive way. As PJ and I discussed last night, they’ve got three digital channels for fucks sake, why not display three different events on them at the same time, thus avoiding the need to cut away for commercials. Which they did three times in the period of five minutes worth of play in the football.

It was ludicrous.

SBS did well from what I watched, they covered the things that Channel 7 didn’t and didn’t disrupt the viewer by shoving adverts down their throat. From what I understand though, NBC’s coverage of the games wasn’t much better.

Premier League and A-League

I’m so glad it’s started again, my two teams Adelaide United and West Ham United have gotten off to a good and average start respectively. However, after two rounds nothing can really be garnered from the results as you can make them say anything you like about the rest of the season. That being said, pick up your game, I don’t want a repeat of last season, that goes for both of you.

On the topic of sports, word is that when I’m a westerner, I’ll have to pick either Fremantle or West Coast to support in the AFL. Since I’m not a huge follower of AFL I’m not concerned too much by this but I’m definitely leaning more toward West Coast than Fremantle. Any opinions out there on this?

Just so you know, I definitely won’t be supporting Perth Glory, it’s Adelaide United for me.

Podcasts

No, I’m not going to start running a FatCast on here or anything like that. Although, maybe in the future, who knows. I started a thread in the forums about the podcasts I listen to. In particular I’d like to highlight the /Film one. If you like your movies then I highly recommend downloading it, I listened to one recently with Kevin Smith in on it where they all just geeked out and talked about The Dark Knight for an hour. It was very cool and well worth it. Jump in the forums and tell us what you listen to if you haven’t already.

Well, I’m going to play with my laptop some more.

Scott
for useless, twisting, our new technology. oh, now there is no sound – for we all live underground

Fremantle or West Coast? Hmm…well at the moment its a bit like do I want to be punched in the face or kicked in the groin cos they have both been awful this season. However, due to high draft picks this season and last, West Coast look likely to recover better. And they at least have a few premierships you can always fall back on when sporting debate becomes heated.

I’m concerned as to precisely what Grum means when he says he “chunge(s) [his] underpants”…
Anyway, I think all this has just served to underline the fact that you’re a cnut, will always be a cnut, and your cnutness is outstripped only by your pride at being a cnut. Cnut. (Congratulations)
