Those of you who know me, or are at least paying attention, will know how much I hate Ian Chappell. He is THE biggest fuckwit in world cricket.

Last night, I watched Australia embarrass themselves at the hands of cricketing minnows, Zimbabwe. The afore-mentioned fuckwit was commentating. As always, he was picking on the Australian team. First he didn’t like their uniform. Then it was that some people were more suited to it than others. Then he started picking on Ponting’s captaincy. Now, don’t get me wrong, I was having a few things to say about some of the decisions being made, but Chappell couldn’t leave it there. He then started picking on Steve Waugh. In case you haven’t been paying attention, I LOVE Steve Waugh. He is the best cricketer since Sir Donald Bradman in my opinion. He was a fierce competitor with a streak of bloody-mindedness that made him so incredibly hard to get out.

I acknowledge that as a commentator, Ian Chappell is paid to give his opinions, but his comments about Waugh were fucking ridiculous. Chappell claims that Waugh wasn’t an attacking captain, but Mark Taylor was. I completely agree with the part about Taylor; he has a fantastic cricket brain and the way he lead Australia (even when his own batting form was shite) was inspirational. Let me point out the flaws in Mr. Chappell’s argument:

First, Steve Waugh was always on the attack. Did Ian Chappell see that slips cordon against Zimbabwe similar to this one a few years ago? How much more attacking does he have to be?
Second, Waugh enforced the follow-on 99% of the time.
Third, under Waugh’s captaincy, Australia won 41 of 57 Tests and a shit pile of those inside of three or four days.
Fourth, Waugh abolished the night watchman and made Australia’s batsmen bat where they were supposed to. Night watchman = defensive. Batsman = attacking.

Chappell is wrong, Steve Waugh was a very attacking captain – I’m not the only one who thinks so

How about instead of bagging the current Australian team, why doesn’t he get off his arse and coach if he thinks he can make so many improvements?
