Dense, fast moving balls of paint

That’s what I was dodging two weekends ago, and if I wasn’t successful in the dodging they were plowing into my fleshy body at a fairly high rate of velocity.

Paintballing
Yes, I got hit. Numerous times infact, too many to name individually but less than is required to take a ride in an ambulance. I wasn’t 100% on the good’s received end of the paintball delivery area, I was doling out the pain quite liberally myself, if shooting paintball’s at people and then hitting them with said balls was considered a charity, I would have been considered a saint for my good will.

The event in question was put on by the trainers at EFM in what will hopefully become an annual tournament. There were 7 teams in all, Mawson Lakes putting in two teams because of the sheer volume of competitors with a desire to shoot at one-another. We were the reigning champions from the last time we held this event, which was also a success. This didn’t change, Mawson Lakes was brutal in its efficiency and dramatic in its resolve. That is, to say, we won.

This event took place in Strathalbyn, a place not known for its night life or anything I really care to investigate however this paintball place was very good. Skirmish SA is the group, so if you feel that way inclined, head on up there for a round or two.

The fucking rain
Along with visions of Full Metal Jacket playing through my head during the day, another constant companion was the rain. It had started in earnest during the week and proceeded to drop a fuck-_ton_ of water onto the ground for the rest of the week and into the next. This meant that not only for this day in particular I was soaked to the core, but it was the same for most days if anyone decided to go outside for a prolonged period of time.

The rain has since subsisded considerably, but its still there, waiting, like a mongoose stalking its prey. It will strike when least expected, or whenever it feels like. That’s what rain does.

Movies I’ve seen
I’ve seen two movies since my last post, Sunshine being the first and the other being the mighty Spiderman 3 in the every comfortable Gold Class cinemas down at Marion. Mark and Rain joined me so it was quite the social experience. I was a big fan of the first two so naturally I wanted to see the 3rd. So, with my geek pride in hand I watched with great interest as the action unfolded. The movie is good, but not as good as the second. They tried to do a lot with the movie but in the end there was a lot to keep up with. When the villains of the piece wait until the third act to get together and decide, “maybe we should kill spiderman” you know the first two acts had a lot to take in. Either way, the thumb is pointing most of the way up so its worthwhile seeing if you’re any way into spiders, men, comic book’s or people made purely from sand.

Sunshine, on the other hand, was a fucking juggernaut. Claustrophobic, violent, restrained in its use of CGI and quite a human story in what amounts to people attempting to fix the sun with a giant bomb. The thumb is, quite simply, all the way up.

Go Karting
I went fast. I went really fast no more than an inch off the ground. I did so in an ill-fitting race suit, poor gloves and a kart that was slightly too small for my man sized ass…err, arse. However, it was still a fucken blast. To elaborate, I went up to the Barossa Karting Club on Sunday to take part in their “Come and Try” day, an event I will be looking forward to going to again if I don’t have my own equipment by then.

The kart I was in, which fitted into the Clubman Heavy class, had around 100cc of power and 4 wheels. That’s the most you need to know, it was quick and it was fun. This particular one had telemetry on the steering wheel via some sort of device so I could watch the track times and speed I was doing quite easily. One the straight I topped out at about 150km/h which was exhilerating to say the least. I am looking to take part in this sort of thing on a more permanent basis but this was just to test the water so to speak, Greg has thoughts on the same sort of level.

Premier League
Now that Manchester United has the title in their grubby paws the rest of the league can relax a little. Well, all except for my team and the ones surrounding it. West Ham is currently locked in a relegation battle with Sheffield United and Wigan. All are vying to stay in the top flight and it will come to blows before any give in. Wigan currently has the poorest form and West Ham the best but Wigan plays Sheffield at home this weekend and West Ham has Manchester United at fucking Old Trafford. Whoever did this fixture is fucked. Cheers for that one. I still feel confident about our ability to finish well so all is not over. We’re currently out of danger but lets wait until Sunday at about 2am before I’ll be comfortable.
