Motion Picture TV

It’s the new buzz word to describe high profile, high cost television series that the US pumps out every season. I don’t watch a lot of TV, I watch a lot of media. My distinction between the two is that I try not to let myself be shackled to the TV guide when it comes to catching the show’s that I like. I know I’ve influenced a few people in this area, one in particular who likes to blame me for his woes.

Just so you get an idea of the TV show’s I watch, here’s a bit of a list of some of the ones I watch right now or have watched recently:

  • Battlestar Galactica
  • The Unit
  • Top Gear
  • Scrubs
  • Stargate (SG1 and Atlantis)
  • Heroes
  • Lost
  • Family Guy
  • Jericho
  • Bones
  • Supernatural
  • Las Vegas
  • Prison Break
  • Entourage
  • The Sopranos
  • The Shield
  • Rescue Me

The reason for watching so many shows? Because I can. As I’ve said before, the television channels in this country are archaic in their release schedules. The only show I’ve seen which sticks close to the american release date is Jericho, it airs a couple of days after the same episode airs in the states. So my decision to not wait until they’re aired here is purely because I’m impatient.

PJ will agree I’m sure, he’s a CSI: Miami fan, the most recent “new” episode aired here was aired some 7 months ago in the states. Well done Channel 9, really showing them how its done.

Another example I think is for Channel 7, something like 7 of the 9 new TV show’s they’ve purchased for this year have been cancelled already in the states. Good work.

I realise its hard to purchase something like a TV show without knowing if its good or not but isn’t that a good enough reason to renegotiate the way things are done to take this into account? Can’t there be some sort of cost reduction or incentive to run the show and if it gets picked up for a full season then the cost changes. Who knows, I’m no TV executive as you may have noticed.

I am a geek with an internet connection though, as you may have noticed. Apparently this makes me public enemy number 1.

Nick’s and Nat’s Engagement Party
Two people, surname’s with more syllables than humanly readable and with the power to topple superpowers when combined, not unlike the rings of Shazam, had an engagement party on Saturday night. Quite a few of us attended this soiree and most of us left without being blind drunk. Yes Wayne, I’m looking at you.

It was a great night, myself and Nat’s father talked at length about the English Premier League and his love of Manchester United. I, of course, spoke highly of my low sitting team, West Ham.

We all were well fed, there’s no doubt about it. There wasn’t a chance any of us who could handle our alcohol, cough*wayne*cough, were going to get drunk. Nick’s Catering (not the same Nick) took care of the food and did a fantastic job and from what I understand the price was brilliant too. Makes you wonder how the others charge so much.

Congratulations to Nick and Nat, I’m sure your children will be football players.

Triathalon
Well, I didn’t go in a triathalon, I went in a duathalon. Run, ride, run. I did the running. I was quite happy with my efforts, I managed to bang out 2 2km runs in fairly quick succession and did them faster than I expected. Always a good surprise.

The next major event like this is the City-to-Bay in September. I’ll start training for that in May/June, I look forward to it. I injured my ankle last year just before it and couldn’t do it so I’m keen to get into it this year.

Fatloaf Karting Bonanza 3
Everything’s starting to come together now, less than a fortnight until the fighting begins in earnest on the track. Just a note about the track at Kart Mania, for the first time in 10 years they’ve changed the track. So, if you’re expecting the same track that you’ve competed on in the past, be prepared to learn some new tricks. For a current situation update on the competitors, head here

Sundry
I’ve also managed to get the wiki back up, it had been down for a while due to a logistical problem (I broke it), but now its back and bigger than ever. I’ve been working on a few new pages but as before, anyone can edit/add to it so fill your boots.

Right, I think thats enough. Bill should be able to whine about something in this post, he couldn’t last week and had a go at me for it.

Good day all.

Scott
i hope someone gets my message in a bottle

    Damn straight.

Yes, Tubby, you’re ruined my life. I used to think that 2gb of bandwidth was more than enough…and now I’m thinking about increasing from 40gb to the next level, as it is frequently capped before the month is finished.

    You heartless bastard.

…and you’re also the spawn of Satan for “stealing” such precious “property” as a tv show. How do you sleep at night?

Just an update to Jericho too.. Channel 10 showed it the day after it showed in the US.. for the first 11 episodes, but they are now 2 behind the US and counting (it’s still to restart on Channel 10)!

    Stupid Australian Television..
