Get out your Cuban's and light up those cigars

Scott was patiently waiting for me to post something regarding this but, apparently I’m useless, so in a cryptic manner he gave some clues to my absence in his last post, The news in question is the birth of my first child, (the first I know about anyway) and yes I had something to do with it. His name is Joshua, Scott isn’t lying when he said he is round and pointy in parts and funnily enough is remarkably person shaped, with minimal amount of hair. Scott was correct that he is much like me, he likes to sleep and lounge a lot, he also eats and shits a lot too, two of my other favourite pass times..

So yes! Its true, I know many of you can’t believe it but I really am a dad, and so far a pretty damn good one I reckon, well at least that’s what im telling everyone..

Joshua’s birth was announced in last weeks Wednesday Advertiser
The newspaper article read like this:
Spencer (nee Brooks)
Adam and Kylie are excited and proud to welcome with lots of love their perfect son Joshua Adam Steven born on the 9th of October 2005 at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, thanks to all staff.

I have just found out that when you put the ‘nee’ in, it means your married I’ll clear it up that I’m not.. Incase you were wondering. and right now, I have no plans of making and ‘honest’ woman of her, I have done one thing right in my life, in making a human, that’s enough of doing ‘the right thing’ for me, I see no need to go any further with that trend and get married etc.. I’m a bad boy and that’s why you all love me, so I figure why change things now?

Ok, to the details everyone has been hanging out for.. Spence Junior was dragged out by Spence senior and was born on lap 97 of Bathurst (not sure who was leading at this point) at The Women’s and Children’s Hospital in room 8 of the Labour ward on level 3 of the Queen Victoria building at 135pm on Sunday the 9th of October 2005.

He was named Joshua Adam Steven Spencer and weighed in at a nice 3.050kg (6lb 12oz in the old scale) measured in at 49.5cm long. He does have hair and a fair amount for a baby, and no its not bright red (to spite what some many have expected) However it does have a slight reddish tinge to it so he may end up nearly as good looking as his old man is.

He has blue eyes (all babies are born blue eyed) but should keep them as both his mum and dad have blue eyes. He has big hands and big feet so hopefully it’s not true what they say about men with big feet.. and he will get a big one of them too?? ;)

I have been asked why all the names? So I will take this time to explain now, then anyone that asks in future can be directed here and I wont have to explain anymore, not that I mind, because its kind of nice. Ok, here goes…

Joshua – this is his first name, is was picked by yours truly, some years ago, I have liked it for years and I wasn’t going to be content with anything else, his mum didn’t have much say in this.. I also didn’t think it was a popular name but I since heard it about a million times.. a little bit frustrating.. Adam – because his mum didn’t have much say in his first name (although she does like it too) she put her foot down in naming him after me, and I don’t mind, the name she picked is pretty cool don’t you think?
Steven – this is where its get a bit mushy and makes me feel warm and fuzzy, this is my fathers name, and the reason Joshua carries this name is because with this he carries on a family tradition, see like my father I am the first son of the next generation and so is Joshua, so the tradition is this, the first son of the next generation will be given one of his grandfathers names, kind of complicated I know but cool all the same.
Spencer – well this is obvious, it my last name therefore it shall be his too.

As some of you may know this hasn’t been the greatest year for me. I have been a little side tracked at the best of times by some unfortunate circumstances that I am tied up in and I have had moments where life almost didn’t seem worthwhile continuing. Well, I can tell you that delivering my first child changed all that, (not that im suggesting that the best way to fix a bad day is to become a parent, because its not) but this whole experience was a big reality check and very quickly put life into perspective.
I was lucky enough to be allowed to physically deliver my son and knowing that I was the first ever person to touch him and be the person to cradle him into what we call life, really is an indescribable feeling. We all know that becoming a parent is a special thing and a privilege, our parents tell us of the feeling and emotion attached, and to most of us we can understand and recognise that it would be intense but I am fresh from the experience and I can tell you that it is total incomprehensible and something I don’t ever think could be mimicked.

It seems like this is rapidly becoming big news and well, I guess it probably is, either that or he’s just that cute that everyone wants to know about him (just like his dad). He has managed to make the news in two web sites so far Fatloaf.com and Total Bowling.com im sure this is only the start of the attention and stardom this little champion will cause.

It’s been a while I know since I have posted I know, but as you can see it has been with good reason I haven’t posted for ages. I know I still owe you guys a shit load of posts about other stuff that has been going on and it is coming, truly, but I think you understand why I have been a little preoccupied with something else that has been going on.

That should just about to do it for now, if i have forgotten anything i will put it my next post but for now sit back and strap yourselves in people because under the new “father/son” rule there is a new addition to the Fatloaf.com family (wow, fatloaf’s first son). He is small, quiet and illiterate now, but it won’t take long for that to change and I’m sure he will have plenty to say in the not so distant future.

I will be sure to keep you all posted on what ‘little Spence’ is up to as time goes on. I am sure you will all be sitting by you computers frantically hitting the ‘refresh’ button to stay up to date because we all know that they grow up so fast and we all don’t want to miss a thing now do we ;)

Phew…. I smell a shitty nappy, I must be off now, and I’ll be back
goo goo gaa gaa
Spence senior.
