will technology be the down fall of society?

will technology be the down fall of society? that is the question.. similar to the famous “to be or not to be” question – although my question is slightly more philisophical. why is it more philisophical you ask?.. well, because im writing it of course.

When the production of the following acticle commenced i was in a very philosophical mood and it was about a week ago.. however im since over that time in my life, so your guess is as good as mine as to what follows..

Let me set the mood as i turn the lights down in your head, or maybe turn them on for some viewers..
the day was long and hard, cold and lonely. i was at my desk all alone staring at the computer screen pondering many of lifes big questions.. i was deep deep in thought when out of the corner of my eye (bottom right side of my screen) a little box popped up with “laura says… ” in it.. intregued, i clicked on the blue flashing box that said ‘laura – conversation’ to see what alll the comotion was about. Up popped a bigger window with some text in it.. turns out that my good friend laura was trying to communicate with me from a distant place (her house). Strangely, i cant remember much of what we spoke about, this may be due to
1) its been a week since that conversation took place
2) the conversation wasn’t important
3) laura was doing the talking, i wasnt listening
or the most likely reason
4) i was abducted by aliens and all the information from that conversation was sucked out of my head via some form of intrusive anal probe..

either way, i ended up starting to write this post, well i think it was me, that or an Extra-Terrestrial being using my body as its transportation and a tool in its plot to take over the world.. im not sure..

anyway im going to put my thoughts from the day in question down to being caused by the new disease sweeping the globe, tom cruise syndrome Katie Holmes has it, and now so do i, (secretly i’ve had it alot longer) but i caught it two weeks ago, on the weekend, when myself and two good mates of mine (Criggy and Jase) headed off to see the the latest in the tom cruise biography being the movie War of the Worlds

The movie was good, i thought so anyway. although it did end quiet rapidly when earth was sucked into an intrergalatic vacuum cleaner and spat out into a black hole in the form of a fruchoc. just joking, really what happened was the aliens all bit our heads of and our legs went that way, and our arms went dat way and they bit us into a million pieces. ah come on, i wouldnt really reveal the end, ill let you all watch it and become as equally disappointed as we were, the movie was good for the action and effects, storyline was average and ending shithouse however.. part of the movie did get me thinking, hard to fathom (me thinking) but it does happen from time to time.. Without going into too much detail a scene in the movie displays, quite clearly, our dependance on electricity and technology.. take electricity away and is like ripping the heart out of society, it comes to a screetching halt..

Seeing this, posed a question to me that i in turn thought i would pass to you all. How long remains long before we are totally dependant on technology, and therefore, in turn electricity.. Sure we can survive without it but we dont like too, our lives seem to revolve around it. how many of us could actually survive in a world where the basic ‘essentials’ of our lives are taken from us? im not sure if i could.. could you?

In the last century society has advanced so fast creating wonderful new exciting things all the time and we are now creating and improving our quality of life exponentially (a rate quite scary) and doing things on a day to day basis that once upon a time would have been thought impossible.. To think that there is no doubt the next century will see changes and developments hundreds of thousands of times bigger than the ones we have already experienced really is quite daunting and with this thought a whole plethora of options and ideas come to mind of things we can and undoubtedly will be doing in the near and not so near future..

with that i will leave you to ponder the wonders of the world.. now dont waste all of your time pondering on how great this site is and how many light years ahead in intellegence the writters are, you can for a little while but at least take a few seconds to reflect on my words above..

for now i am gone, returning to my home planet or a pub close by to it.. beam me up scotty

over and out

That’s far too deep and meaningful for this time of the morning.
