happy new financial year
I’m sure its the high point of a lot of peoples year, I’m sure there were some accountants going absolutely off last Thursday night, partying down like you know they do. Those wacky accountants, it’s just their thing I suppose.
With the end of the money year happening last week and with me running around trying to get stuff done before it happened, it didn’t exactly leave me with much time or motivation to do a post on here. I’ll try and make up for it today.
Some of you know, I like ice hockey, I have for quite some time but have never watched it live. I normally watch it on ESPN on Foxtel if I can, or I read up on it on NHL.com. With the cancellation of the NHL season this year because the hard up for cash players wanted more money its meant that I have had a hole in my entertainment schedule which it would normally fill. In my ignorance I had completely forgotten about the fact that for the past several years the IHA (thats Ice Hockey Australia for the uneducated) has been operating at a growing pace and is gaining quite a momentum. The Adelaide based franchise, the Avalanches are the best team in the league and dominate it quite strongly. And, since there’s no NHL, we have an NHL import playing for us as well. For those who want to know who, its left winger Steve McKenna from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Of course if you didn’t want to know that you do now, so tough.
Anyway, the other weekend I went along to the game with several of the Lynches at the Snow Dome and it was fantastic. Violence, sports, abuse it had it all, in fact they managed to squeeze in some hockey in amongst all that which just added to the whole experience. I’ll definitely be going to the next game this Sunday and will look at getting a season pass next year.
For those who are interested in supporting a sport which is a little different from the norm and requires an extreme amount of skill and poise, look elsewhere. Ha. Surely you saw that coming. Of course, I jest. Come along to the Snow Dome (Mt. Thebarton) this Sunday, 3:30pm, tickets are available from 2:45pm. It won’t be disappointing.
For those who weren’t sure, it was Laura’s 21st on Monday, so happy birthday for then my dear. Of course, I hadn’t forgotten until now, I am just extending some further birthday wishes in her general direction. She won’t know anyway, it’ll probably be another fortnight before she reads this. She’ll tell me off then for this paragraph, it’ll be worth it. Slacker.
She had a bit of a shindig on the Saturday night which was a fantastic night of average food and entertaining company. I’m not going to pull any punches here, there’s a reason why The Settlers Hotel isn’t on any awards lists for anything, even one of the chef’s commented to Spence and myself that the place was average. This from the person who was constructing the food like substances we were consuming. But, I didn’t go there for the food, I went for the celebration of Laura’s 21st. It was a good night, she got a bit emotional but that’s her prerogative, it was her party and she’ll cry if she wants to. Someone should make that into a song, its quite catchy.
After the “meal” was done and about an hour of goodbyes from Laura and her constant “I’ll be there in 5 minutes” comments to the people taking her into the city, myself, Boy, Spence and Kiz bailed and headed off to the casino where we would meet up with her later. Spence and I basically stood around the doorway to a bar inside the incredibly packed casino for a while, it was easier than going inside. Since I had bowling in the morning, I decided that 5 hours sleep was a minimum so Spence and I left and headed back to my abode so Spence could drive home.
Apparently after we left, Kiz and The Boy had to tidy up some of Laura’s mess when she opened her mouth to a drunken person and almost started a fight. Of course, you wouldn’t expect that from such a quiet, unassuming person now would you? No, never.
Apart from that, the week has been rather tedious with me being on late shift and having all my day time consumed by one business and then going to work for another business. I never seem to stop. I look forward to having lunch with several people next week including some sushi with The Boy and Lill.
I wait with the proverbial baited breath for the record 4 reports Kieran has to post for the previous Eeyore games he hasn’t done yet, this should be good, and I also wait to see what Spence has in store for us this week too. After the last couple of days developments, it should be a good one.
Time to be off, cheerio, toodle-pip and all that.

They’re coming, don’t you worry about that! I’ve had some memory-related match report issues, coupled with computer issues followed by internet issues, compounded by a severe and possibly terminal case of I can’t be arsed. But at least 2 of them will be arriving soon. Also, I believe I forgot to put the last one or two on Fatloaf.
) My bad.
