Thanks for the inside info Brenton. But still shouldn’t we be promoting hard cond. in tournaments and some leagues to improve the standard of bowling and keep it moving??!! If we give people hard cond. all the time or more importantly cond. where they have 2 be accurate then they will become accustomed to it and when South Australian’s go over 2 represent their state or bowl in tourneys they will always be up the top because they can hit targets!!! I think most of us r getting passed the stage where if we score well in a centre then we think its gr8 its more the cond. they put down and the bowl i would wanna go back 2 to bowl ova and ova agen is Bendigo because it tested and it made ya work!!! But thats only my view and as ya can see I really am not a gr8 fan of a ditch newayz catch everybody later!!!
I have to admit that I am a bit of a purist when it comes to lane conditions, having bowled on a 1:1 condition at the US Open last year. Just give me some head oil and some backend, make it the same for both sides and let’s have at it!!!!!!!! Let the most accurate man or woman win!

Having said that, there is a reason why village scores as well as it does besides the oiling pattern used. It relates to the track area that has been worn over the 8 years since the lanes were last resurfaced. It is patently obvious that the area between 2nd and 4th arrow on the right has had an inordinately large amount of play. As a result the area in question has become very worn. It doesnt matter how much conditioner is placed in this area, the higher friction in this area of the lane is ALWAYS going to lead to this area opening up quicker than the rest of the lane. You could put 150 units of oil there and it would eventually open up in that track area.

Similar happened I would suggest at Strikezone at he junior nationals this year. Even with a TBA “compliant” condition, the track area opened up and the scores went through the roof. Again this was on wood lanes with a track area. This is a fact of life and an aspect that the lane condition graphs don’t show you.

Give me a synthetic lane, a level condition and a little backend. However, no bowling centre owner/manager wants to have their centre known as a dungeon. Its not good business to have that sort of talk going around about your centre.

Anyway, good luck to everyone on Sunday.

Scott i totally agree with the whole lane condition thing!! It’s not right 2 give ppl a false sense of security and it doesn’t prepare ppl well 4 big tournaments like Brunswick coming up!! Brad and I did express our concerns with the tournament committee and maybe something mite b done in other tournaments!! We are trying 2 do it for the Junior Youth Circuit and in the last 2 rounds we’ve seen scoring which is quite low compared 2 other rounds!! I think we need a big wake up call like Bendigo was 4 the ppl that went there!! Lets not deny it we have talent in this state and putting ditchy conditions down helps nobody it only promotes bad habits, exactly what we don’t need!! Newayz ill get off my high horse now and wish everyone gdluck for the weekend and naturally high scoring!!!

Scott, you’d better hope that Greg doesn’t read your opinion on “The Sound of Music”. He absolutely LOVES it. He can even tell you (as he has told me when we watched his copy on DVD) when the ad breaks would be if it was played on the teev.
